About The Family

David

David's love of programming started at a very early age. His dad owning the first computer store in Canada, allowed him access to computers when they were a ridiculous size.

Through his high school years he was hired on by the Toronto District School Board to do some of their programming. He was excited by this position as he was doing something he loved to do and earning a wage. He even made top dollar for that position. While raising his 4 children with his wife and working, he still found time to indulge in his passion for computers and long before the Internet existed, he was running a successful BBS (bulletin board system).

In 1999, the City of Toronto hired David to help in the upgrades needed for the City to function come the year 2000. Although this was a short contract with the city, he later went on and worked with the Seventh Day Adventist church constructing a health benefit program for their employees. At the same time as working with the church, he developed a new passion and this is where he started to dabble in website design. With a handful of clients who needed websites, he ventured off into the newest trend.

Up until 2003, David was kept busy with helping his clients reach their full potential. In 2003, he finally got around to attending University for his degree in Computer Science. He graduated Cum Laude, but not before he helped in the upgrading and development of one of the program courses for his program. During his University years, he was also working with the University's President's Office, Vice-President's Office, University Secretary, and Privacy & Freedom Office constructing their new websites. He was often sought out by his professors to tutor, teach, mark and invigilate exams. His final year of University and in collaboration with Charlena, and his test clinic, he developed an online Patient Management System that was both interactive with the patient and the provider. The program metamorphed and reshaped as the test clinic critiqued the program to its completion.

Although David has always considered himself a father first, he recognized that his passion has been what has supported his family through the years and is very thankful that he was introduced into the computer era in its early stages by his dad. He feels honoured to have been able to raise his family while having "fun", something which most people seek, but never find.

Charlena

Charlena has been married for over 30 years and has 4 successful adult children and one grand daughter.

Charlena was at the young age of 16 when she found her passion for clinic environments. She first started in Veterinary clinics before having children. After her third child, Charlena was in a car accident and suffered a whiplash injury. At that time, she was seeking help from a chiropractor. Through this injury, she was introduced to all the benefits chiropractic care can provide. It wasn't long before she had signed her whole family up for chiropractic care. She did heal from the whiplash, but she and her family continued to receive chiropractic adjustments. She used the service as a preventative way of keeping herself and her family well.

In 1997, she and her 3 children appeared on the CTV 6pm news, in the segment about Chiropractic Care and Asthma. Her youngest son had severe asthma and in conjunction with his medical treatment plan, used chiropractic care to help lessen the attacks. When Charlena's youngest child turned 4, she contemplated returning to work. At that time, her mother worked as a Chiropractic Health Assistant for several years and heard about a CHA position that was available. Since she was already familiar with clinic environments and coupled by her belief in the benefits of chiropractic care, she thought it was a good fit for her and applied for the position. That was 18 years ago. She first started out as a CHA, but quickly advanced to Manager.

She finds great joy in educating new and existing patients to the benefits of chiropractic adjustments. She has made this her life long passion. She feels privileged to have met lots of chiropractic patients over the years whom have trusted her at their lowest moments, and believed in her enough to seek the necessary help so they could not only feel better, but stay healthy naturally. Over the years, the love of what she did grew stronger and she continued to strive to educate people. It was easy to do since everyday she saw the benefits to the patients. In the last 18 years, she met lots of chiropractors and other natural practitioners whom she considers life long friends.

If you ask Charlena what her greatest accomplishment is, besides her family, she would say serving the chiropractic community, a passion like no other. She credits her success to her family, whom have been supportive of her passion to help others, and the chiropractor who took a chance on her by hiring her back in 2000. Charlena's goal now is to pass along 18 years of knowledge to Chiropractic Clinics as well as Natural Health Centers by providing exceptional CHA /Assistant services through an modern approach called Virtual Assistants.

Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger's, is a developmental disorder in the Autism spectrum that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.

People with Asperger syndrome see, hear and feel the world differently to other people. If you have Asperger syndrome, you have it for life – it is not an illness or disease and cannot be ‘cured’. Often people feel that Asperger syndrome is a fundamental aspect of their identity.

Autism is a spectrum condition. All autistic people share certain difficulties, but being autistic will affect them in different ways. Some people with Asperger syndrome also have mental health issues or other conditions, meaning people need different levels and types of support.

People with Asperger syndrome are of average or above average intelligence. They don't have the learning disabilities that many autistic people have, but they may have specific learning difficulties. They have fewer problems with speech but may still have difficulties with understanding and processing language.

We have three diagnosed cases of Asperger's in the family, and a forth case that, while not officially diagnosed, is believed to exist.

Raising children with Apserger's is tough, and growing up with Apserger's is even tougher.
